My Health Story

My Health Story

Wandsworth and Southwark
2018
Imagineer Productions for Guys and St Thomas' Hospital Trust investigating if patient stories for those with multiple diagnoses could elicit empathy in clinicians. This is Sue who was awesome but I worked drawing and storytelling with patients over a couple of months to create parts for some films.
Unpopular Fiction Limited

Unpopular Fiction Limited

UK
2014
From a set of short stories I got to print with the help of AND Public, sprang Pudding Press Ltd, now named Unpopular Fiction Limited. I wanted to publish my own work within an editorial structure, and now we publish other people's books too. It's still a micro-press and apart from spending 10 years wrangling with the variables of print and distribution, it has been a good thing to do. Starting from a point of ignorance of the publishing industry was maybe no bad thing, although being a printer only partially helped. See it at www.unpopularfiction.com.

This took the form of an installation in Milton Keynes Gallery which featured animation, sound and smell and required the audience to do something.

Ministry of Stories

Ministry of Stories

Andre Has a Hard Time
2015
Ministry of Stories and Hackney Libraries in London paired illustrators with young members of the MoS writing group to make picture books from original stories. I wanted to take a co-collaborative approach after I saw that as well as being a talented storyteller, Nmeso had also done lots of drawings of his characters and had a definite visual idea of his creations. Peanut butter eyes and characters made out of both toasted and untoasted bread were a starting point... and of course, football.
The Free Bookshop

The Free Bookshop

Portobello Road, London
2010
I wrote about The Free Bookshop in Murder and Marrakech and other stories, but what do you do when you inherit so many books that even Hay on Wye don't have the room to take them for free. An interactive art installation maybe.
